SUMMARY

Responsible for the coordination and technical leadership of electronic hardware strategies and the electrical design and development of customer products.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Designs and documents electronic hardware for customer products and related electronics, with management direction, to meet both the customers’ requirements and manufacturing requirements
  • Provides assistance to the Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and ICT test for product, test and tooling development
  • Performs evaluation of quality measurements on electronic designs in accordance with a verification plan
  • Creates documentation related to an electronic design project
  • Contacts and works with hardware, software and equipment vendors
  • Follows project plan; Report project status to leadership
  • Assists in the coordination of electronic hardware engineering strategies for customers
  • Assists in project proposals and associated cost estimates
  • Participates in the development of advanced/new technologies
  • Participates in research and development for new design methods and tools
  • Assists with Design for Excellence (DFX) reviews and creates necessary documentation
  • Develops an understanding of DFX philosophy and promotes with customers
  • With management guidance, works with customers to understand requirements regarding product design
  • Communicates with customer technical personnel regarding technical issues
  • Works with Sustaining Engineering (product, process, test and quality) to develop products that leverage manufacturing and test processes
  • Communicates technical challenges and work with peers to create and implement solutions
  • Participates in continuous improvement activities with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format
  • Performs all the essential functions and competencies listed above
  • Designs and documents electronic hardware for customer products, and related electronics, to meet both the customers’ requirements and internal manufacturing requirements
  • Provides assistance and interacts with Mechanical Design, PCB Design, Functional Test and In-Circuit Test for product, test and tooling development
  • Develops and follows project plan; Gathers and reports project status to leadership and the customer
  • Provides sub-project level or full smaller scale project leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects, mentoring and training for engineers
  • Deploys processes and systems within the workgroup
  • Develops project proposals and associate cost estimates
  • Works with internal manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment
  • Works with customers to understand customer requirements regarding a product design
  • Provides research and development for new design methods and tools under management guidance
  • Participates in identification and development of advanced/new technologies
  • Drives design/development related business discussions on internal customer team(s)
  • Performs portions of and lead Design for Excellence (DFX) efforts; Creates necessary documentation
  • Communicates technical challenges and implements solutions where possible and as required
  • Leads or participates in continuous improvement activities with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format
  • Verifies completed work, checking tolerances, component selection and system requirements for their project, as well as Hardware group members to be used per the verification plan
  • Evaluates quality measurements on electronic designs in accordance with a verification plan
  • Assists with assembly of prototypes
  • Participates in the development of advanced/new technologies related to products, assemblies, PCBs, components, processes, methods and tools
  • Provides electrical project level leadership and organization, as required, for multiple concurrent projects; Provides project leadership and training for Engineers
  • Works with hardware, software and equipment vendors to understand Customer and BEI requirements
  • Assists in the coordination of Hardware engineering strategies for Benchmark customers
  • Provides technical support to team members and on complex projects

QUALIFICATIONS

•4 year Engineering or Technical degree (EE or ME)  preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.

•5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, developing electronics hardware and software.

Additional Specific Qualifications for Position:

•Demonstrate a basic engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems and troubleshooting;

•Ability to utilize this level of understanding to creatively and efficiently design products and assemblies based on various applications and technologies

•Demonstrate a good understanding of mechanism design; Ability to creatively and efficiently design mechanical portions of products, tooling and test fixtures based on various applications and technologies

•Ability to make judgments, with management guidance, using sound engineering principles and techniques

•Proven ability to complete projects in a timely manner

•Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required

•Ability to work well individually or in teams

•Ability to take on project leadership/ownership with management guidance

•Demonstrate ability to work effectively with suppliers or customers

•Knowledge of schematic capture tools, including but not limited to: Cadence OrCad, Cadence Concept, Mentor Design Architect, Mentor Design Capture, Mentor DX Designer, Veribest, Innoveda

•Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal with internal and external customers

•Available for travel up to 5% of the time, including day and overnight travel as required

Level II

  • Familiarity with advanced technologies and applications
  • Demonstrate an intermediate engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems; Ability to utilize this level of understanding to creatively and efficientlydesign products and assemblies based on various applications and technologies
  • Demonstrate effective use of lab equipment
  • Possess strong problem solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions
  • Demonstrate a very good understanding of mechanism design; Ability to creatively and efficiently design mechanical portions of products, tooling and test fixtures based on various applications and technologies
  • Ability to make independent judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques
  • Effective interpersonal skills; Ability to mentor others
  • Demonstrate discretion, confidentiality, independent judgment and professionalism when representing the company
  • Ability to take on project leadership/ownership
  • Knowledgeable in various advanced technologies, i.e. Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) Design, Single Board Computer/peripheral design considerations, power supply design, Radio Frequency (RF) design, etc.
  • Intermediate understanding of software programming techniques
  • Available for travel up to 10-20% of the time, including day, overnight and international travel, as required
  • Able to provide proof of US Citizenship (ITAR facility)
