Job Summary
Are you a highly motivated Human Resources Professional that enjoys the challenges of a growing, fast-paced working environment? If so, the Director of Human Resources may be the position for you! This position supports the Minnesota division with locations in both Winona and Rochester, Minnesota. This requires the selected candidate to spend 2-3 days per week at each location.

Under general direction, the Director of Human Resources oversees the Division’s human resource and administrative functions, to include but not limited to employee relations, training, administration, compensation and benefits, strategic planning, etc.

Essential Functions and Competencies

  • Oversee Training, Administration, Employee Relations and Recruitment, managing a staff of up to 15+ employees
  • Develop department goals, objectives, systems and process improvements.
  • Ensure that the division maintains compliance with company policies and procedures and federal and state regulations regarding employment.
  • Develop and administer an effective recruitment program.
  • Administer various human resources plans and procedures for division co-workers; assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Manage day-to-day employee relations efforts (discipline, documentation, unemployment, risk management, etc.) ensuring compliance, fairness and consistency.
  • Act as a resource to leaders, managers and employees and ensure managers are communicating and organizing change efforts/conflicts effectively and providing the appropriate training when this does not occur.
  • Act as a resource to leaders and managers regarding co-worker issues. Handle employee counseling and provide suggestions and recommendations for handling co-worker conflict.
  • Develop, present and manage leadership development and other employee training activities for the division.
  • Oversee the divisional Training and Certification programs and Administrative support.
  • Develop responses to unemployment or other legal issues, attend hearings, etc.; Work with in-house counsel on legal matters.
  • Serve as the EEO specialist and lead divisional affirmative action plans.
  • Present HR information at all co-worker meetings or other meetings.
  • Interview, recruit, offer positions to applicants and set up new co-workers.
  • Recommend and select new hires, as well as recommend and perform disciplinary action, up to and including terminations.
  • Prepare, recommend and maintain records and procedures for controlling personnel transactions, reporting personal data and personnel file management.
  • Assist with other HR functions as needed.

Qualifications / Education / Experience
  • Extensive training, on-the-job or by classroom, in recruiting and employee relations.
  • Advanced knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software.
  • Demonstrate confidentiality, integrity, energy and flexibility.
  • Demonstrate effective communication (both written and verbal), interpersonal skills and strong leadership/team-building skills.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational/project management, problem solving and change management skills.
  • Demonstrate ability to support a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Identify, recommend, develop and implement programs, processes and policies to address business needs.
  • Understands , interprets and ensures compliance with all Local, State and Federal employment regulations.
  • Demonstrate strategic planning skills – ability to design, develop and execute HR strategies to support strategic business goals.
  • Ability to travel as requested.8+ years of Human Resources and training experience required.

    5+ years in a management role required; large or multiple sites (600+ employees) Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field preferred, or combination of education and experience as approved by executive management.

    Professional certification in PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP are preferred but not required.
