Job Summary
Precision Technologies, the precision mechanical manufacturing division of Benchmark Electronics, is looking for a CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT INTERN! Precision Technologies, a division of Benchmark Electronics, Inc. Precision Technologies Tempe has an extensive capability in mechanical manufacturing. Our customers are leading Original Equipment Manufacturers who require exacting precision mechanical production capabilities. Our product lines include the, Aerospace, Healthcare Scientific Instrumentation, and complex electro-mechanical equipment. Our Capabilities Include:
• Precision CNC 5-Axis Milling and Turning
• Precision 5-Axis Grinding of Aerospace Turbine Engine Nozzles and Blades
• Close Tolerance (Micron level) Instrumentation Grinding
• Electrical Discharge Machining (EDM) NADCAP approved
• Complex Electro-Mechanical assembly and test (Class 1K & 10K clean room)
• Functional testing
• Medium to Large Coordinate Measuring Capabilities In this position, you will be responsible for supporting continuous improvement activities for production and functional areas. You may interface with Product Development & Engineering, Purchasing, Production, Quality, Logistics, Sales/Marketing, and Human Resources to streamline business and production processes, improve quality, and reduce operating costs. The hours for this position will be flexible based on the candidate.


Essential Functions and Competencies

The successful candidate will have:
• or be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in the field of Industrial Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering (3rd or 4th year)
• knowledge and/or experience in cycle time studies, root cause analysis, continuous improvement methodologies, and Six Sigma tools and improvement cycles
• strong computer skills (2D drawing software-AutoCad, DraftSight, etc.) desirable
• the passion and grit to reach your goals
• a desire to expand your knowledge by challenging yourself
• the ability to work well in a team environment and communicate cross-functionally to assist team in solving issues
• positive communication and people engagement skills
• strong critical thinking skills, be detail oriented and be willing to follow up and follow through with these job duties **While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Some travel between Benchmark AZ facilities may be necessary (Phoenix & Tempe).**
Qualifications / Education / Experience

• Studies, analyzes and develops solutions to production problems and implements improvements for optimum utilization of labor, material, and equipment at the most economical cost
• Collects floor data by conducting cycle time studies
• Utilize Lean Manufacturing tools and methodology to reduce waste, streamline processes, and improve quality process controls
• Provide business leaders with support, tools and training to conduct project reviews on regular basis
• Collaborate with project leaders in leading continuous improvement teams to rigorously apply LSS methodologies and tools and achieve business objectives
