Job Summary
Test Development Engineer II with our Design Engineering Team

Location: Winona, MN

The Test Development Engineer II coordinates test strategies and develops test solutions for Customers. Test solutions may be in-circuit test (ICT), functional test (FCT), environment stress screening systems (ESS) or support systems for these developments.




Essential Functions and Competencies

  • Focus on test generation and documentation, for product test solutions using standard test platforms or wholly custom test developments, to provide manufacturing solutions that meet both the customers’ requirements and the Benchmark manufacturing support groups’ requirements.
  • Develop proficiency on at least one platform.
  • Perform evaluation of quality measurements on a tester/fixture development in accordance with a validation plan.
  • Create documentation related to a tester/fixture design project.
  • Contact and work with test component vendors.
  • Follow project plan and report project status to leadership.
  • Assist in project proposals and associated cost estimates.
  • Understand and contribute, as able, to test strategy development discussions on customer team(s).
  • Work with internal manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment.
  • Assist with design for testability reviews; Create necessary documentation.
  • Work with Sustaining Test Engineering to effectively transition test solutions to production.
  • Learn and begin to work with advanced technologies (Boundary Scan, ISP, embedded test, etc.) as needed and under specific direction.
  • Develop an understanding of Design for Testability philosophy and promote with customers.
  • Communicate with customer technical personnel regarding basic test issues.
  • Communicate technical challenges and work with peers to implement solutions.
  • Participate in test strategy development discussions on customer team(s).
  • Develop day-to-day project activity organization in accordance with test development procedures, including financial planning and review of financials as part of a project post-mortem.
  • Participate in a continuous improvement activity with complete documentation, including a follow up review with the team in a presentation format.
  • Perform design for testability reviews; Create necessary documentation.
  • Develop an understanding of test strategy planning and promote with customers.
  • Focus on test generation and documentation at an intermediate level, for product test solutions using standard test platforms or wholly custom test developments, to provide manufacturing solutions that meet both the customers’ requirements and internal manufacturing support groups’ requirements.
  • Work with Project Managers in all relevant aspects of test development to ensure design solutions are completed on schedule, on budget and meet the design intent.
  • Communicate with customer regarding technical test issues.
  • Work with internal manufacturing support groups to understand the requirements of the production environment and to effectively transition test solutions to production.
  • Participate in development of advanced test technologies.
  • Provide research and development for new methods of testing and utilizing automated test equipment.
  • Maintain proficiency on at least one platform.

Qualifications / Education / Experience
  • Demonstrate effective use of lab test equipment.
  • Demonstrate day-to-day project activity organization in accordance with test development procedures.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work within the test development and project teams.
  • Understanding of advanced technologies (Boundary Scan, ISP, embedded test, etc.).
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  • Ability to make good judgments using sound engineering principles and techniques.
  • Effective organization and prioritization skills.
  • Effective interpersonal skills – ability to mentor others.
  • Proven ability to complete projects in a timely manner.
  • Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required.
  • Demonstrate discretion, confidentiality, independent judgment and professionalism when representing the company.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, as well as presentation skills.
  • Ability to work well individually or in teams.
  • Require general supervision for completion of tasks.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with suppliers.
  • Understanding of and ability to use continuous improvement tools.
  • Familiarity with advanced technologies and applications.
  • Possess intermediate knowledge of software languages and programming techniques, revision control, and verification and validation techniques.
  • Demonstrate effective use of test development applications (National Instruments TestStand, Labview, LabWindows – ICT: Agilent board test development applications).
  • Possess an intermediate engineering level understanding of electronic components, circuits and systems.
  • Solid analytical skills and troubleshooting of electronic circuits.
  • Demonstrate day-to-day self-directed project activity organization in accordance with test development procedures.
  • Demonstrate a good level of understanding of test development techniques and ability to apply test solutions for intermediate level test scenarios.
  • Ability to take on project leadership/ownership.
  • Demonstrate ability to work effectively with customers.
  • Available for travel up to 10-20% of the time, including day and overnight as required.


  • 5+ years of experience in electronics manufacturing, developing hardware and software.


  • 4 year Engineering or Technical degree (EE) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management.
