The Tool & Model Maker constructs precision prototype parts and models from raw stock materials.





Essential Functions and Competencies

Level I-II
  • Fabricate tools, molds, jigs and fixtures for complex automation equipment and production fixtures
  • Work on assignments under the supervision of Senior Tool and Model Maker or engineering
  • Understand implications of work; Make recommendations for solutions
  • Provide feedback, throughout the machining process, to engineering to ensure high quality parts
  • Update/Mark up documentation provided by engineering with any change requests to ensure documentation accuracy
  • Assist with machining equipment preventative maintenance as required
  • Cross-train, as required, to gain knowledgebase for all pieces of equipment
  • Assist in the build of mechanical subassemblies, as requested, to ensure design accuracy
  • Maintain machining bits/tools/bolts stock
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Maintain and utilize verification tools to ensure build to print accuracy
  • Take work direction from the Lead Tool and Model Maker and/or work with Senior Tool and Model Makers and engineering to gain a solid knowledgebase of tool room operations
  • Interface on a regular basis with engineering personnel, including questions on the design; Provide input on design enhancements to ensure better overall fabrication ability
  • Provide support to manufacturing, as requested, for fixture modifications and design
  • Provide design feasibility of machined, molded or cast parts
  • Participate in a continuous improvement activity

    Level II

  • Perform all the essential functions and competencies listed above
  • Work on assignments that require considerable judgment and initiative
  • Maintain a minimal stock of raw materials for quick turn parts
  • Provide guidance and mentor less experienced tool and model makers
  • Assist in quoting activities for future business
  • Build mechanical subassemblies, as requested, to ensure design accuracy
  • All employees are responsible for the Quality of their work to ensure BEI meets, or exceeds Customer Satisfaction.

  • Qualifications / Education / Experience
    • Demonstrate effective and safe use of hand tools, mills, lathes, CNC, saws, drills, surface grinder,metal tempering, welding, etc.
    • Demonstrate accuracy and attention to detail to minimize scrap
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Effective interpersonal skills
    • Effective multitasking skills and the ability to take on additional responsibilities as required
    • Effective organization and prioritization skills
    • Demonstrate discretion, confidentiality and professionalism when representing the company
    • Ability to support a 24/7 global business operation as required
    • Ability to work overtime when needed
    • Ability to work with diverse groups

      5+ years of experience in complex machining design operations, including CNC programming

      2 year Technical Degree (or apprenticeship certificate) preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience as approved by executive management
